"'The Lake in Central Park' was inspired by the area around the Bow Bridge from which the photograph was taken. I often go there to sit in the area on the left and to 'recharge my batteries' after working at home or working out at the gym. In addition to the rowers in the photo, many birds, gulls, egrets, ducks, geese, even swans (not currently) have made their home here. And a not-so-authentic "Venetian" singing gondolier in a real Venetian gondola periodically makes his appearance."
"The music, of course, is meant to evoke the usually calm atmosphere of the lake, and the melody, in hindsight resembling the nineteenth-century tune "Long, Long Ago," perhaps adds a measure of nostalgia to this very short piece."
