"'Rêverie' is a short piece designed as an introduction to my vocal setting of Thomas Hardy's poem 'To Life.' Though it uses none of its material, the perfect fourths in the flute of the last few measures are a set-up for the opening minor sixths of the Hardy setting, and the minor sixth is also heard prominently at the opening of this piece. The meditative aspect of 'Rêverie' is accentuated by the rhapsodic performance in the Serenade Duo's fine recording.
