Why have we tattooed this splendid Friesian-Holstein with the names of four of the world's most widely known music information centers? And why should this matter to you?
Because the page before you represents a lost opportunity for some composer thanks to their apparent decision NOT to inform their members or the public about Nu Mu [sic!] Unlimited Festival 2007.
If they did, we never heard about, and we never received any reply from any of them to our e-mails. Nor did we find any announcements about the Nu Mu [sic!] Unlimited Festival 2007 at their web sites after checking repeatedly.
Each of these music centers twice received detailed notification about the Nu Mu [sic!] Unlimited Festival 2007in early August and early September 2007, well in advance of the deadlines. Evidently they just ignored us and continued to contentedly chew their corporate cuds. Naturally, we apologize if we're in error, but until we hear anything to the contrary, we can only conclude they blew us off.
Or perhaps they were cowed by the fact that the world's first virtual new music festival was conceived and funded not by some high-profile foundation, governmental agency, corporation, institution, or big-name celebrity on which or whom they happily depend but by a small but growing international band of boldly independent tonal and microtonal composers and their colleagues? Perhaps they thought the Nu Mu [sic!] Unlimited Festival 2007 was just a lot of bull?
Utter nonsense! Even if that were trueand clearly it isn't, a lot of bull is virtually every corporate music cash cow's fondest wish and sacred duty. We leave them to graze and bellow while we go about the real work of creating a thriving new musical culture embracing everywhere and everywhen and not confined to the narrow pastures jealously guarded by institutional elitists and their gatekeepers.
All of this is moot, you may think, since the deadline for Nu Mu [sic!] Unlimited Festival 2007 has come and gone. But in view of the uncooperativeness of those music centers named above, we are cordially extending our invitation beyond the deadline to non-tonal composers who would like to contribute a touch of tonal topiary or perhaps even a dysfunctionally harmonious ha-ha to our Virtual Music Garden, and we will provide web space for the same until every numbered spot on our Virtual Music Garden Folly has been filled. All participants in this ongoing project will be treated with respect and are expected in turn to comply with the submission guidelines already published in our Yahoo forum and on our FAQ web page (links below).
We look forward to hearing from you, and meanwhile invite you to enjoy a stroll though the diverse soundscapes created for your pleasure, amusement, and edification by members of The Delian Society.
Please enjoy using the controls below to express your own feelings about corporate moo [sic!] and its gatekeepers.
