Vatiations concertantes sur le nom de Paul Verlaine pour basson et orchestre: "La fée verte" (Concert Variations on the Name of Paul Verlaine for Bassoon and Orchestra: "The Green Fairy")

Arrière L'oubli qu'on cherche en des breuvages exécrés!

For "La Fée verte" the strings follow an early setting by the composer of the poem "Alcohol" by the English poet Gavin Ewart, representing the "green fairy" of Absinthe beloved of many poets of the late nineteenth Century, whilst the bassoon quotes Verlaine's name and interacts with the strings in a way that follows the later—rather more abstinent—poet of La Bonne Chanson: vade retro Satanas!
